Infamous Inmates:

Bobby Seale

Bobby Seale

Chairman of the Black Panther Party, the bound and gagged defendant in the Chicago Seven conspiracy case, and later a candidate for mayor of Oakland, Bobby Seale, wrote parts of the history of the Black Panther Party, Seize The Time, while in the San Francisco County Jail, 1969-1970.

Seale's Chicago case was severed from the group trial and Seale was sentenced to four years in prison for contempt of court. He was sent to the San Francisco County Jail to await extradition to Connecticut where he and Erica Huggins, the founder of the Connecticut Black Panther Party chapter faced murder and conspiracy charges for allegedly ordering the murder of a former member of the Panthers. After two years of incarceration and a hung jury, the charges were dropped.

More recently, Bobby Seale paid a visit to the County Jail as a guest lecturer and urged the prisoner population to learn high tech skills so as to better compete in today's world.
