VICTIM HAD 42 YEARS IN FIRE DEPT.

Battalion Chief Frank Lamey, 63, who dropped dead fighting Wednesday afternoon's Bernal Heights gas fire, was a veteran of nearly 42 years in the city's Fire Dept.

Lamey had set up a command post at the scene and was busy directing firemen when he collapsed.

HE WAS rushed to Mission Emergency Hospital but Fire Chief William Murray got the word by radio-phone a few minutes later: "Lamey is dead."

Murray recalled that al¬most 11 years ago Lamey's brother-in-law, fireman George Keenan, also collapsed and died while fighting a fire. Keenan died Jan. 15, 1952, at a fire at Folsom and 14th sts.

CHIEF LAMEY joined the department in 1921. He lived at 130 College ave. with his wife, Florence, and their two children, Robert, 14, and Florence, 13.

In addition to his wife and children, Lamey also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Keenan and Mrs. Marcella Mullane, both of San Francisco.
