FEARFUL POSITION OF FIVE FIREMEN — DEATH OF ONE, BY THE FALLING OF A WALL
1855 November 5
While the Pipemen of Tiger company, were in the inside of the building, playing on the ruins, the centre wall fell, burying in the debris, five of our gallant firemen, terribly wounding four of them and killing one. The wounded were Wm. E Fitzgibbons, John Simpson, H. Wortley and J. L. Williams of Tiger company. The one killed, was T. T. Seward of Volunteer company No. 7. The men were taken from beneath the ruins immediately, and medical aid was summoned. Drs. Tewkebury, Moses, Mclntosh and others rendering all the aid in their power. The wounds of the four first named were dressed and the -officers taken to their homes by Captain Whitney, Foreman of Howard No. 3. Seward lived but an hour after he was taken from the ruins, during which time he was faithfully attended by Mr. Boruck, the Secretary of the Fire Department. Messengers were sent into the city for the necessary Surgical instruments to amputate Scwards limbs, his right leg and arm being crushed, but he died before the operation could be performed. The Coroner being informed of the circumstance, proceeded to the place where Seward was lying, and brought him to the city, placing him in the new house of Volunteer, No. 7.

THE DEAD OF YESTERDAY.
1855 November 5
— The body of Thos. F. Seward, who was crashed by the falling of the walls of the Novelty Distillery yesterday, is at present exposed to the view of his friends and the firemen generally, in the new engine house of Volunteer Co. No. 7, on Pine street. His funeral will take place at 3 o'clock p m. to-morrow, and in the meantime all the flags of the different companies are lowered at half-mast, in token of respect.

— The Fireman's Journal of Saturday is enshrouded in lines of black, out of respect to the memory of Thos. F. Seward, a member of Volunteer Engine Co. No. 7, who lost his life while engaged in his duties as fireman at the conflagration of the Novelty Distillery.
