FIRE CAPTAIN KILLED IN FALL

Captain Julius Phillips of Engine No. 42, San Francisco Fire Department, last night met death while leading the men of his company fighting a fire in a two-story frame building at Boylston street and Silver avenue.

Dragging a line of hose up a the flight of stairs to a door in the second story, Captain Phillips and his men William Woodall and Terrance Fox were overcome by dense, belching smoke. Captain Phillips fell backwards down the stairs. He suffered a fracture of the skull, and died before his chauffeur, Fred Fenk, could get him to the Mission Emergency Hospital.

The fire broke out in the home of George Lyminiski while all the members of the family were away, and was subdued with difficulty.
