Work Completed Date: March, 2020
Perform load test on electrical system. Alternator charges sufficiently at driving speed. At idle, voltage drops below 12v. Remove alternator, install smaller belt pulley, found fan belt to be incorrect width and rubbing on engine block bolt head. Replace fan belt (new belt sleeve left in glove box) re-install alternator and fan, power steering, & a-c belts. Reconfigure wiring for siren solenoid at battery terminal. Start engine and test electrical load @ idle speed, charging system maintains 14v. consistently.
Change engine oil and filter.
Remove 4 wheels and tires, remove front and rear brake drums and inspect. Found front brake shoes worn to rivets and drums grooved, found rear shoes worn 70%. Clean backing plates of brake dust. Found upper control arm bushings and sway bar bushings worn out, metal on metal. Remove upper control arms from frame. Develop parts list and locate vendor to supply all needed parts for brake and suspension rebuilding.
Replace front suspension bushings, includes; remove wheels and tires, remove outer ball joint nut and cotter pin, remove upper 'a' arm bolts, remove shock absorber and coil spring, remove lower ball joint nut and cotter pin, remove lower 'a' arm, remove stabilizer bar and strut arm. Drill out and press rivets holding upper ball joint to 'a' arm. Press inner bushings out of 'a' arm. Media blast and paint upper 'a' arm. Install new ball joint. Install new inner bushings and shaft. Install 'a' arm onto chassis, install coil spring, install new bushing in lower 'a' arm, install strut rod bushing, install lower 'a' arm to chassis, connect ball joints and cotter pin, connect tie rod end for steering linkage. Remove brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, and related hardware, clean brake backing plate, install new wheel cylinder, hoses, and shoes. Separate brake drum from hub and replace brake drum (worn beyond limits.) Repack front wheel bearings and install drum assembly. Install wheel and new tire. Repeat to opposite side. Reinstall anti-sway bar with new bushings.
Remove rear wheels and tires, remove brake drums, clean brake backing plates, remove wheel cylinders, shoes, and hardware. Media blast and paint hardware. Reassemble with new wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, shock absorbers, hand form new steel brake lines and install. All front and rear suspension components very rusty and unusually difficult to disassemble. Adjust and bleed front and rear brake hydraulics.
Remove carburetor and send out for rebuilding. Remove electric fuel pump and related mounting hardware. test mechanical fuel pump on engine, not working although it looks new. Remove pump, remove oil pressure sending unit from engine block, modified from stock by another service technician and in the way. remove very long mounting studs also installed by another technician, modified from original. Install new fuel pump. install oil pressure sending unit. Fabricate new steel fuel line from pressure side of pump to carburetor. Install rebuilt carburetor. Install new fuel filter. Test run and adjust. Reinstall air filter.
Disassemble headliner to access to auxiliary lights. Remove roof mount lights for top repair and fixture replacement. Disassemble steering column assembly for access to broken indicator switch cam. Install new replacement cam, wire into system. Evaluate remainder of switch requires replacement.
Remove complete air conditioning unit including under dash wiring. Reconfigured all brackets, spacers, belts, and hosing for reassembly. Install new fuel filter and perform internal inspection of previous filter. Reinstall carburetor, test run OK. Remove police radio and speaker, includes removal from a/c blower housing. improve battery hold down and bracket assembly. Remove deck lid mounted antenna. Recondition 4 bulb red beacon. Polish chrome base, replace electric motor from second beacon, install 4 new bulbs and carriage from third parts beacon, select best of 3 beacon red lenses, then sand and polish lens.
Filled holes in roof from old beacon. Sand roof and prep for paint includes: minor body work
** (entire previous paint job has "solvent pop" paint damage under first coat, would have to strip entire vehicle of paint to rectify deformity and guarantee new paint job, discussed with Director Ebarle, continued process and did not correct defect.)
Remove 4 doors, sand and prep for paint. Paint 4 doors white. Drill holes in roof for replacement beacon. Drill holes in driver side rear quarter panel for whip antenna. mask off body from roof and apply black base coat and clear coat to roof. Color wet sand and buff with 1000, 2000, 5000 grit paper. Polish doors again with same grit paper, install and adjust doors. Install new complete turn signal switch, cut new gaskets for beacon base, red lights and trunk antenna plug. Install whip antenna. connect wiring forward facing red lights, and beacon. connect wiring, reinstall headliner. Install new dome lamp. install outside rear view mirrors removed for paint on doors.
